Military justice

A former active duty U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps attorney (currently a major in the Reserves), Jonathan Crisp has extensive experience representing military personnel in cases involving violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Mr. Crisp has built a reputation among soldiers as a knowledgeable and highly effective attorney. While serving as a Defense Counsel in the JAG Corps, Mr. Crisp was specifically requested by those accused to represent them. Two of the more high-profile cases in which Mr. Crisp was requested by name included a case involving charges of abuse against detainees at Abu Ghraib and a case involving the death of a detainee during an interrogation.

Courts-martial and Article 15 proceedings

Attorney Crisp routinely represents clients in courts-martial proceedings and advises them on Article 15 proceedings under the UCMJ, also known as a "captain's mast."  If an offense does not warrant a court-martial, an Article 15 proceeding may be initiated against the soldier by his commander. Under an Article 15,  the commander can take the soldier's rank and salary, restrict mobility to their barracks and assign minor extra duties. Mr. Crisp helps soldiers evaluate their situation and decide whether or not to turn down a captain's mast or go to trial.

Administrative proceedings

Mr. Crisp also provides advice and representation for service members involved in administrative proceedings. He regularly represents service members who have received letters of reprimand from their superiors.  Letters of reprimand are not a criminal offense, but can prevent a service member from advancing further in rank. Mr. Crisp uses his experience and training to help the service member zealously defend their conduct.
